If you had asked me over Labor Day weekend in 2007 if it would be almost 4 years until my next camping trip I would have laughed. Ha ha! I would have said “Don’t be silly, we LOVE camping! Why would we wait four years to do it again?”
Well there was that silly deployment, then the summer of being in my third trimester (I didn’t leave A/C that summer for more than the amount of time it took me to walk to my car and turn on the A/C), and then the mostly famous but also somewhat infamous year of the house remodel. You know the year where we didn’t have a bathroom for a while? So, here we are nearly four years later and we have just returned from an imperfect but awesome weekend in Goblin Valley.
Not camping for four years can really get you out of practice. Naturally, we forgot a couple of things. The “Most Missed Item” award definitely goes to the air mattress. It was a case of he thought I had it; I thought he had it. But there’s also the “Where did that thing go?” award and that goes to our camping lantern. It’s still MIA. We have the “Coolest Camping Gadget” award and that goes to the light/fan that hangs magnetically from the top of your tent…it’s really cool. Finally, the “Least missed award” goes to our cell phones. They didn’t ring, chirp about a text message, set off morning alarms or squawk about an incoming email all weekend long…………………..silence………………thanks little Goblins!

ReplyDeletetoo funny! we bought a bunch of camping stuff when we were first married -- even got some stuff as wedding gifts I think. How many times have we been camping in the past 11 years? yep, you guessed right. Zero. I like the awards! fun stuff.
